Today is my rest day. It has been since last Wednesday since I took one and my body yesterday was feeling worn down. Today, I know it appreciates the recovery time. I will need it for my race on Saturday.
Yesterday I went over my macros. I did not binge. I just made the decision to eat some additional food (hence the title of this blog)…and maybe some champagne to get through the debate!
Sometimes you need a break and you know what? That’s okay.
I’m tracking macros to hold myself accountable 75% of the time (I’m not a macro warden by any means) because I don’t have a deadline for my goals. Sure I went a little over my macros. However, I did so by choice.
Just because I needed a day off doesn’t mean I’ve failed my goal. We’re all human and perfection is unattainable. I aim to be better each day and each week but it doesn’t always happen. We learn and move on!
Unless you’re competing, I see absolutely no reason to be strict with your macros 24/7. Life is meant to be lived and sometimes that means logging out of MyFitnessPal.
Plus, as someone who has a passion for baking, I do not always want to avoid my creations. I did that almost my entire 16 week contest prep. Enjoying what I bake makes me smile and sure most of the time I can determine the macros for my creations, but I do not always want to know!
S’mores Mocha Fudge Brownies:
- Pillsbury Mocha Fudge Brownie Mix
- Mini Marshmallows
- 1-2 Hershey Bars (I used 1 for an 8×8 pan)
- Graham Crackers
- Preheat oven and prepare brownie mix according to the box.
- Lightly grease pan.
- Line pan with one layer of graham crackers.
- Pour in brownie batter.
- Cook for time on box based on the size of pan you used.
- With 5-7 minutes remaining top brownies with mini marshmallows.
- Finish cooking.
- Break up Hershey bar into small pieces and top marshmallows immediately after you remove from the oven.
- Let cool and serve!
These are heavenly. It was totally worth throwing my macros out of the window yesterday to enjoy one!
If you’re following macros, it is important to learn the times when to say NO to cravings and stick to your goals and when it is okay to just live! If you’re not competing, don’t sacrifice friends and families for your diet. Learn to order accordingly or plan events that accommodate everyone. Or, just splurge! Those moments are a okay too!!! Find YOUR balance. Don’t copy your coach’s balance or friend’s balance because that won’t work for you. It will take time, but eventually you will find this thing called balance we all so desperately want.
