At the beginning of 2018, with my wedding around the corner, I decided that it was time to finally take my skincare routine seriously. Sure, I never had cystic acne or anything major, but if you ask my now husband, I was notorious for going to bed without taking makeup off or rinsing my face. And, when I did, I typically used face wipes and Dove soap. Yup. That’s it.
In February of last year, I finally made an appointment at Wisp Salon in Parker, Colorado to see Jen, their Esthetician. BEST. DECISION. EVER. Jen knows her stuff and can help you determine exactly what your skin needs.
I see Jen regularly…yes still…(every 4-6 weeks) because it’s never too early or late to begin taking care of your skin. It’s precious and sensitive. Sure, I don’t have a big event coming up but I want my skin to look young, refreshed, and healthy all dang year. I typically get a Focus Facial + Dermaplane…but, don’t just call up your local salon tomorrow and ask for this! Any great esthetician knows that everybody’s skin is unique. They can help you determine what type of facial is best for you!
Feeling confident in my skin on my wedding day was made possible by Jen and the advice she gave me for my own personal routine. See for yourself:
But, like I said — I still see Jen and still keep up my at home face routine because it’s important. Below are the products and routine I have — this isn’t sponsored — it’s what has gotten me REAL results! If you’re interested in a product, check it out and if its benefits are good for your skin.
Typically I go to the gym first thing in the morning, so I start my day (before the gym) with just a fresh, cold water rinse. That’s it. Simple.
But, if I don’t go to the gym, I like to awaken my skin with this Clean & Clear Morning Burst Facial Cleanser. I like to think it helps “caffeinate” my skin but that’s obviously not that case — all in the head. It feels good and clean, so I like it.
I follow this with my Baré Alchemy Soothe Serum to moisturize my skin — it’s made for dry/sensitive skin types like mine! It won’t leave your skin feeling oily which is exactly what I want.
This serum is pricier than your average face lotion, however, a little goes a long way.
Most of the time I work from home, so my Baré Alchemy Serum is perfect. However, if I plan on venturing outside, this redhead needs sun protection. That’s when I’ll swap my Soothe Serum for this Face Reality Daily SPF 30 which Jen recommended. My husband even borrows this because it doesn’t smell like sunscreen or make your skin feel oily — a win-win!
This could be a daily product for the majority of you because it’s amazing how fast and easy your skin can get damaged from the sun.
If I go to the gym to the gym in the morning (most days), I swap the Clean & Clear Morning Burst Facial Cleanser for my iS Clinical Cleansing Complex. This product, also recommended by Jen, is amazing! It’s paraben free, doesn’t dry out my skin and is super gentle. *if I don’t work out, I ONLY use this at night
Typically this is my go-to nighttime product. It helps remove my makeup…if I wore any but most of all it helps ensure I have clear pores before bedtime.
In conjunction with my iS Clinical Cleansing Complex, I use the Skin Better Science Rejuvenate Regenerating AlphaRet Overnight Cream. This helps improve the appearance of lines, wrinkles, uneven tone and texture. I kid you not, Jen even said that once I got my skincare routine down my skin was look extremely even in tone. Heck, any compliment from an esthetician is a good one in my book!
I also LOVE that this product lasts. It’s not cheap. But, a little bit goes a long way.
In addition to the above routine, a few other products I use multiple times throughout the week include:
Barè Alchemy Protect Serum: Keep this in your gym bag! It’s lightweight and refreshing. Perfect for use after a workout when your skin needs a little boost!
Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream: Great for dark, puffy eyes!
Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Rose Water and Aloe: I spritz this on my face throughout the day. It is a refreshing, hydrating mist. Think of it as a little pick me up for dehydrated, tight and uncomfortable skin.
Origins No-Puffery Cooling Roll-On: Keep this bad boy in the refrigerator and roll-on in the am when your eyes are feeling tired and puffy! Hello, before a video-conference call…yes, please!
Ice Roller: I use this every morning after applying my moisturizer. Using an ice roller helps reduce facial swelling, reduce fatigue, shrink pores and more! If I do have a blemish sneaking in, I hold my ice roller on it for about 15-30 seconds to reduce swelling or any irritation/pain associated with it.
If you’re in the Parker area, definitely set up a consultation/appointment with Jen! She’ll help you get the perfect skincare routine started and take of it during your appointments.
If not, find a local esthetician — I can’t stress enough how important it is to find products that work for your skin. While some of the above may be great for you — always check the ingredients and recommendations before giving them a try.
